Zealous? But for what?

http://bible.com/1/ROM10.1.KJV Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved. For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.

Do you know people like this? Perhaps this is you. Or me. Everybody has a cause or something they totally believe in. It drives them. It sometimes consumes them. But when it is not in harmony with God’s will, what becomes of such admired drive and commitment?

Paul the apostle was very much committed to persecuting the Christian people in the name of God! Was he focused? Yes? Zealous? Very? Did God approve? No. Jesus had to step in and redirect all that beautiful energy the right way. We may need that same redirection.

I know you are focused. You fight with a fervent desire unlike any other. Do it in knowledge. Do it in wisdom. Make it truly mean something. Read God’s word and find out His will for you.

Blessings,

This is a excellent article. I agree that we can be zealous about what we want in life, but do we talk to God about it first. Do we ask His direction for our path? Are we patient enough to wait for His answer. God Bless you!

Isn’t it amazing how Christ used someone who persecuted His followers to spread the good news to the Gentiles. At first, some of the church leaders were afraid of Paul, but they eventually took him in to the fellowship. Jesus said, I will show him how much he must suffer for me, and indeed he did, but he also became a strong apostle for the truth. I also pray for Isreal to have salvation and to return to God. I am encouraged when I see some Jewish teachers preaching about Christ and acknowledging that he is the son of God.
