It’s been a long time. Sorry for the wait. Here’s a quick snack to chew on…
What’s So Different?
You ever breathed a sigh of relief because people were able to “accept” you being a Christian?
If so, think about that for a second. You might be a tad too worldly. I’m talking to me too. I mean, really, when your concern becomes one of acceptance for being Christian or hoping to fit in as a Christian or hoping you integrate into a particular group or society… you’ve missed the point. That’s what the nonbelievers and the world seeks everyday!
Acceptance. Right? People go through great lengths to fit in despite their differences of opinion or lifestyle. Or people just simply conform enough to fit it to some box. Sometimes they conform just to fit into their own skin. Acceptance drives society.
And in many cases, that’s okay. There are certain circumstances where you should conform and seek a level of acceptance… cases where it makes sense…
But a gospel believing Christian who has rendered obedience to God through Christ Jesus all but threw acceptance out of the window. Because following Jesus openly AND behind closed doors is a blessing, not only to the believer, but the nonbeliever.
Our faith isn’t to be mingled with a desire for acceptance. In other words, no disrespect, but WE CARE LESS ABOUT WHETHER OR NOT OUR BEING CHRISTIAN IS ACCEPTED. See, that’s the sharp contrast. Many groups and ideals and lifestyles fight for this very thing and force others to ACCEPT.
But no. Acceptance isn’t the goal. That’s why Jesus took the beatings and the persecution and the cross. That’s why the martyrs and apostles took the persecution. That’s why many believers, even in the entertainment industry take the exclusion from limelight and mainstream venues. Because, to be honest, being set apart is what makes the Chrsitian life MEAN SOMETHING.
And when it means something to us to the point conformity and acceptance is of no value, then it begins to mean something to the one who DOES NOT BELIEVE. I cannot seek to be a part of something that closely resembles where I am now. And that is where some of us have missed the point. This is why some people have felt more comfortable to try Jesus out and still remain as though they were not following him.
There is no distinction!
And what then is Holy? If It is not set apart?
Being unapologetically holy highlights the true value that being a child of the living God HAS. There is no value in being so encumbered with acceptance that the line of distinction between believer and nonbeliever is blurred.
You’re not doing yourself any favors and you not doing the nonbeliever any favors either.
Because ultimately in everybody’s mad desire to be accepted by everybody else, we will miss the goal to be acceptable to GOD.
So Christianity is different. It has to be. We should not seek acceptance. We should seek to be as different as living God’s word makes us. This makes us holy and acceptable to God. Nonbelievers, it is that distinction that makes being a Christian mean something, thus leading the nonbeliever to repentance and then being holy and acceptable to God.
In Christ, don’t be accepted. Be Holy.
A Brief Thought… Christ and HIM Crucified
Simplicity may very well be the best teacher… please understand I’m always talking to me FIRST.
“For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.”
1 Corinthians 2:2 KJV
My heart is heavy as I observe things around me from a spiritual standpoint. This is on top of the recent challenges life has handed me. But when I see elements of Godlessness and the way in which it manifests itself, I find myself helpless. I fear that many believers feel the same way. It causes us to forget that the reason we received and tasted of God’s mercy and grace and became believers. We recognized two very important things. We were dead in sin. Jesus can save us.
Perhaps the Good News is what, in our panic and frustration, we forgot saves ALL. Paul kept it simple– Christ and Him crucified. Why? Because anybody who has attempted to match wits with someone about spiritual matters can become frustrated, then cold, then callous and lose the main reason we started talking…because we LOVE them.
I’m not saying hell fire and brimstone aren’t at times necessary. I just feel we may want to first keep it MILK. Christ and HIM crucified. That is the good news that leads others to sorrow, repentance, obedience and joy. Because when you understand why Christ, why He was crucified, what happened after and what that means for you, it should hit them in a different way. A much different way than we do it. We trust our words and eloquent speech way too much. We like to put our own spin on it.
Just leave God’s spin on it. Let us also not wrangle with those whose heart are not willing to receive the good news. For there is someone else who is and is waiting for YOU to spend time telling them…
My heart remains heavy and in prayer…yet my goal is clear. I just pray my feet are ready to run…
Feel-good Hip-hop! J Vessel – “Dance Like U (ft. A Star)” (@astarmusicuk @jvessel)
This song fills a void in hip-hop for feel-good records that don’t promote the negative influences that typify mainstream hip-hop and quite frankly, these records need just as much as the Lil Yachtys.
“Dance Like U (feat. A Star)” is the latest single from the debut album, Reflections, from 20 yr old Londoner, J Vessel.
On this upbeat club friendly feel-good track this 20 yr old Londoner is joined by A Star. This video includes submissions from J Vessel fans all over the UK.
J Vessel shares, “Music has taken me all around the world and I’ve seen so many different people from different walks of life. Many are faced with personal battles internally or severe health challenges but you’d never know that by their faces or how they handle life. Dance Like U was inspired by such people – who’s joy in God gives them the power to laugh in the face of adversity and dance in the race. It features a good friend of mine from the UK A Star.”
J Vessel continued, “We’ve done around five music videos from this album and my team and I were thinking how we could make this video something the fans could be a part of. So as the song is about dancing and has a catchy hook, we decided to ask social media to send in footage of them sing along and dancing to the song. Much to our amazement we got loads of submissions back and made that the bulk of the video!“

Lyrical Sermons: “Misconceptions” by Da Truth featuring Dr. Ravi Zacharias (@truthonduty @chh)

“Misconceptions”
(feat. Dr. Ravi Zacharias)
In the Hip-Hop culture
Everybody believes in heaven
By in large, nobody goes to hell
Biggie said, “When I die I wanna go to hell because I’m a piece a mess
And it ain’t hard to tell
I don’t wanna go to heaven with the goodies
Man, I wanna go to hell with the dudes in black hoodies”
For the money and the power
Why would he? I don’t know
Why put him in the place that he said he ain’t wanna go?
Ain’t no promise for tomorrow
Lord have mercy on my soul
Man, we sick of blowing smoke
Man, we Christians, we ain’t politicians
So, naturally, they got a problem with it
Hate to be the bearer of the bad news
Just like I said this ain’t my opinion
Let’s take the murder in the Beatles story
They shot John Lennon, died prematurely
Every heart will bear for these loved ones
They shot him dead before he reached his forties
He wrote a note,”Oh, is Jesus for me?”
I just wanna know if God is real
It’s a quote and it’s been reported
“if He is then I want out of hell”
It’s such a shame when it gets distorted
Yeah, we talking about loving bail
It’s such a shame that he departed
I pray we never change if it’s out of fear
All these misconceptions
Headed my direction
Looking for an answer
Which way do I go?
All my imperfections
Can we find an answer?
Which way do I go?
Man, they got us running scared
Gotta talk it rapid and it’s so unfair
I thought America was land of the free
Can’t talk about it in the public square
Keep it to yourself like a private eye
Nobody talk about it till it’s homicide
They only seem to talk about his love
Nobody talk about the other side
I’m not a judge, only God is
I can not pretend to know where Pac is
I can not pretend to where Pun went
All I know is death is like a pop quiz
Where do I go when I finish here?
What if I repent and say the sinner’s prayer?
What happens when I disappear?
How can a loving God send us there?
All these misconceptions
Headed my direction
Looking for an answer
Which way do I go?
All my imperfections
Can we find an answer?
Which way do I go?
[Dr. Ravi Zacharias:]
I will tell you this, Emmanuel
If I did not believe in the reality of hell
I don’t think I would be in this ministry
It is not just the longing for heaven
It is the legitimate shunning
Of pain which is what hell to me is
The absence of God and it’s not enough to say to say it happens in this world
What happened to Hitler in this world?
What happens to many in this
There are murderers running free today about whom we know nothing
And they’ll never get caught
They are quite happy to be doing all of the crime
Why not go and have a shootout after a funeral if there is no hell?
But, on the other hand, if I’m told by mother, “Don’t put your hand into that flame. It will burn.”
It’s a natural law at work
There is a spiritual law at work too
You determine to live apart from God
And you will spend your eternity precisely that way
I’m afraid that we’ve gotten soft
God is not a villain that the muscles bought
What about the people that are never heard?
All I know is everybody’s held accountable
All I know, he’s a judge and he judges right
It’s what I told em’ all on the other night
If you believe that you break the law you can go to jail
When you breaking the law of heaven
You go to hell
Dang
I consider this one of the strongest new Christian hip-hop records. But let’s truly break this down and see what rapper Da Truth is highlighting. He, along with Dr. Ravi Zacharias, pointed out the reality of hell and its direct correlation with how we live our lives here on earth. Furthermore, Da Truth exposes the huge misconception that there is no distinction between who goes to heaven and who goes to hell. Furthermore, he also highlights how Christians are socially forbidden to share the truth. This is a hard truth that rapper Da Truth has no fear in speaking boldly.

A “Come to Jesus” Moment
Have you ever heard of someone having a “Come to Jesus” Moment? It’s a very interesting concept that is even used in a secular setting because it represents a moment where you awaken to something. It’s almost like an epiphany or perhaps the “aha” moment. It represents a position of “what was I thinking?” or a moment in time where you find that drastic changes are sure to follow. It’s powerful no matter how you look at it, because when one has that moment, they are now at FULL ATTENTION.
But let’s examine where that moment actually comes from. The Bible speaks of several instances where someone has this exact kind of moment. We can recall David not knowing what he had done to one of his soldiers with Bathsheba and Nathan having to make it clear to him what he did. There was the Jews on Pentecost realizing that the Man they crucified was the Messiah and their savior.
But I’d like to take a look at the son who told his father he’d like his half of the inheritance and decided to venture out on his own. He went after what he thought was what he needed and wanted. He had a ball, he enjoyed himself, squandered his money and eventually hit rock bottom. He left because he didn’t feel he needed his father. He thought he could find something better on his own. The Bible says at his lowest low he, “came to himself.”
Perhaps he had a “Come to Jesus” Moment.
We all have or will have these moments. They come in many forms, but what they scream to you in its own way is that what your have been doing is not working. It tells you that you’ve been heading the wrong direction. It tells you that there is more to life that what you currently value. It his hard and it feels awful at the moment. You know what that feels like. It renders you powerless. Hopeless. Empty. Against a wall. At your wits end.
But here’s the thing, many people have a “Come to Jesus” moment; however, during that moment not many COME TO JESUS.
Perhaps we should call it a “come to Jesus” opportunity. Jesus has laid out the invitation, right?
“Come unto me all ye that labor and are heavy-laden and I will give you rest.”
Think about that. Labor. Heavy-laden. Imagine what labor feels like. Labored breathing means you work a whole lot harder to get air. Heaviness means you are weighed down by something and cannot move. Now how about lifting that weight? How about breathing easy?
How about that?
I see people in the midst of a “Come to Jesus” moment almost every day. But you must now come to Jesus? That means once you realize where you are is not where you need to be…that you’ve been heading the wrong direction… that what you’ve relied on is not working… that you reach for the rope to pull you from that lowest low. Look up.
Come to Jesus in that very moment... before that moment passes… God gives us ample opportunities, but they are in fact limited to how long we are blessed with life… then the moment is gone.
So come to Jesus today…

The Entitled Society
Have you really stopped to take a look at this world as it stands right now? Actually, let me actually bring it closer to home. Have you taken a look at this country? Your city? Take a look at the actions and nuances that go on around you. Grant it, some places generally have nicer folk than others and there are plenty of people that will pleasantly surprise you; however right now in this day and age one of the biggest issues is this sense of entitlement— and it’s a huge problem.
What IS entitlement? It’s a mental position that suggests that you are owed something. It’s a powerful position to be in and thus breeds a level of control that oozes attitude. If you can think of the power that a creditor has over a debtor (ever had overdue bills?) or think of how it feels when somebody has done something for you and you owe them AND they lord it over you. Even further, think of a situation where you’ve wronged somebody and you feel bad for it. This position of power is something that has become the state of mind for several people…for several reasons.
Look around your cultures and different groups of people and pinpoint the entitlement button. It could be by race, ethnicity, financial position, company position, social status, being rich, being poor— it creates a sense that the world owes you something and “you have the right to…”
With all that in the backdrop do you see the level of conceit and self-centric attitude that permeates our society? Do you see this play out in our interactions with people? Do you see how this flies in direct opposition to humility? Because how can you ever develop a strong level of humility when these are the phrases that rule your mind: You owe me… I deserve… I expect… I earned… I worked for… this is a right…
Don’t get me wrong. In some cases these attitudes are applicable. I’m not implying that these are always awful thoughts to have. In a healthy dose, confidence is paramount. However, we are talking about the people that tailgate you or honk at you because you’re moving too slow, the privileged kid that speaks rudely to adults and demands things, the person that robs a liquor store at gunpoint because life is hard, the celebrity that parties hard and is rude to their fans and the little people, the CEO that fires at will and doesn’t care about his employees and this escalates to people who lash out in shootings and violence because they are retaliating for what’s been done to them.
God certainly does not want us to have this attitude. In the days of the Israelites, God made every effort to show that He, not they, were in control. He rescued them out of Egyptian bondage and led them in battle with small numbers. In the days of the new testament church, it was asked, “what do you have that wasn’t given to you?” Acknowledging God then leads us to acknowledge that in Him we move and have our being. He knows our beginning and our end. Every good gift comes from God. He is even the source of wisdom. To top it all off, as we could not save ourselves from our sin and from death, Jesus stepped in and took OUR punishment and became the propitiation for our sins. He died in our place.
Taking it to a worldly level, the world owes you NOTHING. You were given life by your parents so you owe them. They feed you and take are of you. You may be qualified for that job, but that company still GAVE you that job. You may be CEO but even that was given to you. Think really hard and ask yourself, what do I deserve? What did I not RECEIVE?
The Bible clearly states what we deserve. The Bible says for ALL have sinned and come short of the glory of God. Then it also says the wages of sin is death. Wages are what you WORK for. If you are sinful, God’s just earning for you is death and eternal separation from God, who cannot be in the presence of sin. God owes you punishment. He has the right to punish you.
But God…
Grace and mercy and love was put in the place of those characteristics that we possess. Jesus became the antithesis of these attitudes. He gives us a reason for humility which leads us to salvation. Humility leads the world to a peaceful place. Because these phrases prevail: I owe… I was given… this is a privilege…
Take a good look at your life and really see what you OWE. What you were GIVEN.
We can continue to live in an entitlement state of mind, bump heads, argue, have scuffles, have wars, have high and mighty attitudes and have unhealthy competition. Or we can live in a humble state of mind being thankful, gracious, merciful, forgiving, gentle, have peace, have low and humble attitudes and seek the best for others over ourselves.
“I don’t owe you. You don’t owe me. We owe God”
I pray we look to God for this attitude, change the sentiment of society and place ourselves in the right relationship with God.

Removing the boundaries?
I want the world to know something — two things. This is for believers and nonbelievers alike. One, is we are in a state of emergency. And what I find very disheartening and worrisome is that the world is starting to unravel. The funny thing about it is it’s starting to unravel because of an attempt to remove all MORAL obligation and the reason is because there is no standard created. When you remove a moral obligation or standard, it means everyone can do ANYTHING they desire – right or wrong. Now, adding to that, if you take away any guidelines or obligations within the workplace, how does that company run? In any type of organization or organizational system, work, sports teams, machines— any process has a guideline or standard.
So why wouldn’t MORALITY of all things have a guideline or standard?
Second, God has established a moral guideline and a moral standard. Yes, we have a bunch of people that believe in God and believe in deity in such a way that they have caused chaos by doing it the wrong way. God set a standard in the Bible. Yeah, we have some people that dispute the validity of the Bible— was it written by God or written by man? We believe that it was written by God through inspired men, but that’s not the main topic of discussion here. What I’m trying to discuss is a moral guideline and a moral obligation that leads you to do the RIGHT thing and establishes right and wrong. You remove that in government and you have anarchy, right? CHAOS— which some people LIKE!
Here’s the thing. People are working tirelessly to REMOVE moral standards, moral guidelines, moral obligation—- and that’s a concern. Because when one seeks to remove God from the picture or seeks to remove a moral standard or moral obligation, you gotta ask that person WHAT IS YOUR MOTIVATION? Because, yes, man is a very amazing, wise, powerful and intellectual being. Whether you believe he came by chance or by God, he is a magnificent being! But guess what! MAN NEEDS OTHER THINGS TO THRIVE. It is evident! Man needs to inhale and exhale. Man needs food. Where does he get that from? Before the grocery stores, he had to grow it or hunt it. Man needs things! Man needs people! When man is born, if man does not get nurtured or hugged, man DIES. Right?
So man came into the world NEEDING something to survive, to thrive. So then the question becomes why do you want to REMOVE man’s dependency on ANYTHING??
If man needs physical things to survive, how much more would man need MORAL, INTERNAL, SPIRITUAL, INTELLECTUAL THINGS TO THRIVE? If man wants to be ANYTHING, they have to either go to school or learn from someone who knows how to do what they desire to do. It doesn’t just instinctually come about. And I think we’ve just gotten to a point of rebelliousness where there is no desire to admit or acknowledge a dependency on something. And guess what? Christians and believers acknowledge a dependency on God. And whether or not you think that’s foolish, whether or not you think that’s stupid, whether or not you think that’s weak, whether or not you think that’s failure, whatever you think it is— that’s what we believe causes man to thrive.
Scripture says God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise things of the world. God’s foolishness is greater than man’s wisdom. And this is a concept that people don’t understand. It’s almost like you really have to dumb it down in order to understand God. Because you are too smart to accept God. You are TOO WISE to accept God. You desire control too much to accept God. And there is a HUGE CONCERN with that.
If you could take the time to LOOK at this world right now, don’t equate GODLINESS with CHAOS. Because conflict comes, NOT FROM RELIGION OR BELIEF IN GOD, but from disagreements in ANY facet of life. And if either or both of those people do not choose to put others above self (a Godly concept), they are going to conflict and there will be confrontation, fighting, anger, insults, war.
GODLINESS DOES NOT CAUSE CHAOS. It cannot happen!
Godliness. Not religion. Cause people believe in everything. Religion just happens to be belief in something, in a system that determines life actions. So belief in the wrong thing CAN CAUSE CHAOS. But GODLINESS DOES NOT CAUSE CHAOS.
LACK OF GODLINESS, LACK OF A MORAL CODE, LACK OF A MORAL OBLIGATION TO A MORAL STANDARD— THAT LEADS TO CHAOS.
That goes for ANY moral standard. If there is a moral standard that tells me don’t kill and I don’t have that, I will kill! If there is a moral standard that tells me don’t sleep with another woman while I’m married and I don’t have that, I will SLEEP WITH ANOTHER WOMAN WHILE MARRIED!
So YOU WANT TO REMOVE ALL OF THAT!
OKAY…what do you think will happen?
