Christian – based hip-hop label God Over Money, led by Bizzle has been known for being outspoken about speaking the Gospel through music and have taken on all topics from gay marriage to police brutality and even believers criticizing other believers.
Understanding that some of their delivery is considered brash and angry, they take a moment to address their critics on Datin’s latest single Had Enough.
Listen to what they are saying and let’s talk. Perhaps I’ll put in my 2 cents next blog.
This singer/rapper has blessed a hook for a who’s who of Christian hip-hop artists from The Breax to Eshon Burgundy and still finds time to make his own soulful classics.
“Home” is the first piece of content I’m releasing from my “Race the Sun” series. The term “Race the Sun” is an allegory that represents our life here on Earth. Essentially everyone is in a race against the sun. A race to accomplish our purpose before our sun sets. My purpose is to make God honoring music that edifies the body of Christ.
With that in mind, I’m starting a yearlong audio-visual series called “Race the Sun”. Every two months I’ll be releasing a song and a video (6 songs & 6 videos total). The theme for this year will be “Home” and tell a story about redemption. This first release is the title track and will introduce this years theme. This song lets listeners know that no matter how low we get or how far we roam, we can always come…home.

Imagine me waking up to such good hip-hop news! Lecrae has released the third installment of his Church Clothes mixtape series. The mixtape is available on all digital outlets including iTunes and Spotify today!
I’m already curious about the collabo with E-40. Also he releases the 3rd Misconception which features three of the illest emcees John Givez, J. Givens and Jackie Hill Perry. You excited yet?
Atlanta based hip-hop/alternative artist Sherrod White is set to release his new EP FRSH X STRT on January 29th.
Listen to this Sherrod White and Tone Jonez produced airy radio-friendly track, Made It, featuring a very catchy chorus sung by Hillary Hand.
“The central theme of this project is that we don’t have to wait until some significant date, new year or event to happen, to provoke change, be impactful or even strive for greatness. Each new day God graces us to see is truly a fresh start. Even though this is a short project, it’s still personal and speaks to the heart of people.”

I’m always looking for witty punchlines and out-the-box delivery these days, but sometimes you need that straight up rap about the gospel. This kid does just that. That bassy down south beat that knocks doesn’t hurt either!
Bible Toter is about the Word of God being a weapon against the enemy. There are also references about not bowing to Caesar which represents us as believers of Jesus Christ not bowing down or compromising to the world. It speaks to being on fire for God.
I start 2016 with a rant. I tried writing an organized blog and erased it. START OVER. The man of today chases utopia. They want the best of the best on earth right now. They will go through great lengths to achieve that utopia. Some of these efforts are beautiful. They seek peace and harmony, love and acceptance. Happiness for ALL. It is in our Pledge of Allegience after all. Right?
“One nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all”
Hold up. Wait a minute. That’s a beautiful picture. Awesome! This pleads for unity and equality and FREEDOM. The very things that exist in a utopian environment. Here’s the thing. What about under God?
Ohhhh! There you go. See even as Americans we desire and have fought for the very things that define utopia. But again, these are wonderful things that make for a wonderful life here. And to be quite honest, I don’t see too many people as a nation under God. Perhaps even as people have fought tooth and nail to remove those words from the Pledge, though the words are still there, the feeling isn’t.
If we were a nation under God then that suggests we are under God! This acknowledges He is there and therefore the Referee. We acknowledge His control and acknowledge all that come along with the 100% belief in a God. Then we now think beyond this physical world and beyond this quest for utopia and beyond the struggle for the best life here…only.
The world in which we live in is enamoured with utopia. I know and love folks that are chasing this utopia. We want everything to be as perfect as possible. But leave that God stuff out of it because that’s only going to get in the way of our perfect harmonious life HERE. But see THAT’S THE PROBLEM.
If we indeed are perfectly confident and comfortable with the fact that there is no God and thus only one life then this is a beautiful effort! One that only a hateful fool would interfere with.
But….under God. When these words are taken into consideration…it changes everything! You open up the afterlife, you open up a whole spiritual realm where there is more than right and wrong, there is obedience and sin. There is a God that gives blessings and does miraculous things like make our hearts beat. There is a peace that transcends the physical pains and causes even the most troubling situation on the surface fail to shake joy on the inside. And you don’t search for and fight for just the best life HERE. You seek the best life AFTER.
What you don’t understand is that in seeking the best life after here you end up creating the best life here.
So utpoia under God is not so glamorous if that utopia will be burned up in fervent heat and done away with forever. It will be a waste of time and much heralded effort. Utopia without God isn’t all that great either because that world just dies and fades into nonexistence along with everyone else. However it does make more sense and would be seen as a beautiful and gallant effort.
The quest chosen depends on the belief chosen. The world right now reflects the result of an all out attempt at utopia and the best life…here.
My aetheist friend wisely pointed out how wonderful the world would be if they all followed the teachings of Jesus.
Jesus gave, taught, lived and died not for utopia and the best life…here.
Here is an appropriate song from one of my favorite hip-hop artists Flame.
Marty’s solo EP hit an exclamation point with this record which features Marty’s friends going in on a bass-heavy track. The song features JohnGivez, NF, Wordsplayed, FERN and Kaleb Mitchell. You know what it is!!!!
Hip-hop artist Supa returns with the introspective and encouraging record and video Face Tommorow. The track features Supa addressing the struggles of today over a midtempo track. This is a heartfelt and very relevant song.
I don’t usually get trill, but when I do, I bump this track by Corey Paul. This kid goes in on this gritty piano laced dirty south beat. Reppin Christ, he speaks on John’s beheading and his faith and takes it there on a hook that will make you jump!
