Go to now, ye that say, Today or tomorrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that. But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil. Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.
James seemed to really take issue with those that would make future plans. He chatsises them and urges them to say, “if the Lord wills”. This is something that seemed very minor in the scheme of things. People say those things on a regular basis. I can’t count how many times I’ve heard someone casually say, “see you tommorow!” and I couldn’t tell you they were evil for that. However, James expressly points out that God in fact does have a problem with that…why?
First, let me say that I don’t think that anybody who does not say anything along the lines of “Lord willing” is evil. I will say perhaps they know not the weight and or the blessing in what they are saying. “See you tommorow…I’ll be there next week”. Perhaps it’s too morbid to face the reality that this isn’t always the case, though we take it for granted. James hightlights the fragility of life. Furthermore he highlights WHO controls the days of every one of us…that is God. Okay so I got morbid I suppose.
What is the point in all this? The point is that God has to factor into everything that we plan. Honestly God’s in control of everything. And to even suggest tomorrow as though it is a forgone conclusion slights the very One who holds the future. Grant it, not everybody is coldly planning thier future and saying, “I’m going to do this no matter what God says.” Perhaps the matter is of a training of the mind. To be reminded to say, “if the Lord wills” is to be reminded to be reverent and submissive to God. Those little words can keep us humble and thankful as we greet another day. Conversely, the more we fail to acknowledge God’s control and providence in our lives the more we become overly self seeking, self praising and downright conceited. Boastful… You may feel weird saying, “Lord willing” in response to, “will you be coming in to work tomorrow?”. You may even feel like it’s understood so why say it? But God has given us things to remind us and to keep us right with Him. In His infinite wisdom He lovingly tells us, “Not so fast”.
We tend to give ouselves more credit than we deserve sometimes. To vocally give it to God’s will when sharing our plans and when interacting with the world and our brethren is to give God the glory. It is to encourage us and remind us to be thankful. To arrive safely is by way of God giving you that grace. A healthy vocal regimen trains a mental awareness of God in our lives and also serves as an evangelical tool.
Who knew saying something as basic as “See you next week” would hold so much weight. Yet it does. Not to scare you, but to encourage you. Count yourself blessed. A wonderful God has blessed you with this moment. In that moment, while today is still today, give Him the glory. Obey His Son who is able to save you on the day that tomorrow does not come. He promises that all who call on His name by confessing Him as Lord and Savior, washing away thier sins in the watery grave of baptism, dying to the flesh and rising up a brand new child in Christ will live life in eternal joy.
God simply wants us to understand that we need Him. He loves us. He can save us. He protects us everyday. He sustains us. And He blesses us according to His will.
I hope to provide you another blog soon…Lord willing
This is a solid and well put together album. The beats are crisp, and soulful while Bumps speaks candidly on his daily struggles and hope in Jesus. This is one bonkers track of many. Listen to Run Boy (feat. Gemstones & Bizzle).
I’m always on a search for a dope female emcee. Lauryn Hill spoiled me and set the bar high. She’s far removed from her epic debut and only studio solo album, but her influence is creating some legitimate talent. Introducing Angie Rose! I found this posted on instagram and I’m very interested in what else she has to say. How about you?
I’m hoping to do a blog feature on Lyrical Church Girls soon. Stay tuned for that. Because every church boy needs a church girl. đ
In the meantime, check this out below and get churched!!!
Once you get passed the fact that we are not the product of chance or a big bang theory explosion, you will understand that God created us. And he didn’t just leave us here to fend for ourselves. He has always given His creation instructions. Where He one spoke directly to His people, in these latter says, God has given His Son and then the Holy Spirit which is His Word. The Bible.
Consider… Ephesians 6:14-17 KJV
Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
2 Timothy 3:14-17 KJV
But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
We therefore must be diligent to read, study and obey and LIVE the Word of God. In it lies our purpose, our strength, our hope and how to get through this life. It’s peace.
Trip Lee made one of the hottest songs I’ve heard and it really highlights this point. It’s called Know Me from his latest effort The Good Life
Without giving too much away, listen closely to this song…
Nope! Hip-hop is not dead by any stretch. There is really good music out there! No, really! The reason people have become disillusioned with hip-hop right now (or at least I am and I know Iâm not the only one) is because the music has officially become redundant and placed in a creative rut. We know the soundâŚ808-snap-clap-hi hat-snare-snare. The second reason is the contentâŚMONEY, GIRLS, CLOTHES, DRUGS, YOLO! Radio stations are not budging and nobody is an exception. So we are left with a bunch of okay rappers further corrupting the youth who just like the beat and somehow live vicariously through these ballers, thugs, party-animals and players.
SO WEâRE SICK OF IT AND WE WANT THAT REAL HIP HOP!
So we go to the backpack rappers right? The conscious rappersâŚright? YesâŚand no. If you love hip-hop and are not partial to profanity then you will grab your Talib Kweli, Common, Mos Def and get your real hip hop fix.
Okay, but what if you DO have a problem with profanity? What if some of their beliefs clash with yours? What if youâre a strong Christian who loves hip-hop, but cannot tolerate profanity no matter how positive the message is. Lastly, you love Jesus and would love to hear some rappers that love that good melodic backpack hip hop, and love Jesus too.
Okay, enough of ME. Letâs get you hip-hopped up!
Redd Lettaz
This dudeâs flow makes a lot emcees extremely laughable. He quickly bounces over the track with witty vocab. I first heard him while scavenging iTunes for some music. His latest offering is an EP called Tha Refocusing. My song is âAre You Seriousâ. Donât sleep.
Propaganda
This kid spits like he has a chip on his shoulder and balances a slightly disjointed flow with impeccable cadence. A part of Humble Beast records, his latest effort Excellent is just that. In fact the title track is one of the hotter ones on the album. Check out âRedefine Cutterâ featuring Lee Green.
Stephen the Levite
Talk about cadence! This emcee effortlessly weaves multiple rhymes back to back while telling the Good News! All this over soulful loops and breaks. His most recent album is called The Last Missionary released in 2012. Lovely — DONâT SLEEP! Check out âS.O.Sâ.
Beautiful Eulogy
This group is hip-hop refreshment! This Humble Beast collaboration group broke new hip-hop ground in my opinion with their space-soul album Satellite Kite now available. The group consists of Braille, Odd Thomas and Courtland Urbano. Check out âOpen Letter to Whoeverâs Listeningâ. Enjoy!
Bonus!
Let me interrupt my blog to tell you LISTEN TO THIS! Beautiful Eulogy, Theory Hazit and Lee Green with âKing Kultureâ
Theory Hazit
Feels a little bit like Nas the way he hugs the track vocally and complements it with storytelling flows. Another Humble Beast artist, check out his recent album THR3E. The beats are just ridiculous! Listen!
theBreax
Live band sound with lyrical prowess and Godly content. Need I say more??? This duo consists of Beleaf and Ruslan. This video is for âImagine Togetherâ featuring R-Swift
JusThoughtZ
Discovered him on RapZilla.com. This kid definitely has a smooth flow filled with honest stories of his love for music which is eclipsed by his love for Jesus. On âIâm Okayâ, he bodies this soul loop and now I waiting for the next joint. Enjoy!
There are so many more, but this will hopefully get you started. Grab these artists and turn your radio super loud! Itâs okay, itâs clean and itâs positive, but itâs HOT!!! Just a hip-hop tip from your friendly neighborhood Christian Music Pusher.
Blessings!!
