Zealous? But for what?

http://bible.com/1/ROM10.1.KJV Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved. For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.

Do you know people like this? Perhaps this is you. Or me. Everybody has a cause or something they totally believe in. It drives them. It sometimes consumes them. But when it is not in harmony with God’s will, what becomes of such admired drive and commitment?

Paul the apostle was very much committed to persecuting the Christian people in the name of God! Was he focused? Yes? Zealous? Very? Did God approve? No. Jesus had to step in and redirect all that beautiful energy the right way. We may need that same redirection.

I know you are focused. You fight with a fervent desire unlike any other. Do it in knowledge. Do it in wisdom. Make it truly mean something. Read God’s word and find out His will for you.

The Real Gospel is Not Popular

I think when you really think about it, we all desire to be godly. Its in us. The Bible says we were created for His glory, to glorify the creator. We were made to love Him. So yes, we truly set out to do be good, God fearing people.

But as when the command was given to Adam and Eve to not eat of the forbidden tree, the tree looked all the more appetizing. More appetizing than serving their very own creator. The created outshined the Creator.

So it began…

This is the tug of war that Paul spoke of in his epistles. We want to do right yet the body says this feels better.

Because we were made to love Him, this tug of war causes us to strive for a have-your-cake-and-eat-it-too situation. Let me get God’s blessings without doing a thing.

We misuse the concept of grace to this end, thinking grace absolved us from requirements, work or any kind of responsibility.

We ignore, conveniently, clear commands of what God considers sinful because those just don’t fit us. We tailor God to us rather than tailoring ourselves to God and in the end we have created our own God rather than following the One that already is.

So then we have popular versions of the gospel created to fit us. Ignoring commands that are mean or archaic. The church is packed with lost souls who accepted the nice gospel. The watered down gospel. The popular gospel.

But if we give them the unpopular, straight no chaser gospel, the “no, you cannot do that” gospel, it would be as though one had the rug pulled from under their feet…

However…that IS what we need.

Satan wants the popular gospel. He loves that church because contrary to what the world sees, he runs that church…

Please don’t be fooled by the popular gospel. The unpopular gospel is the good news. Jesus saved us when God, through His grace sent Him to die for our sins. But you must do. Yes you must do something to accept it. You must live what the word teaches. If God condemns it, don’t do it…even if the world changes its view because God has not.

Don’t take my word for it. Read the Bible and take His word for it.

Blurred Lines?

As Christians we are charged to preach the gospel in and out of season. If not for simple fact they we can’t help but share our joy, for the reason that we love others and want to save the lost. The question becomes how do we effectively share the good news so that we reach the lost?

We have the information. We should first fully trust the power of the Word of God. Apart from that you cannot teach Jesus. Then we have the delivery part. We must know who we are speaking with and from that how to relate to where the listener is. We see this in the Acts of the apostles. Furthermore, Paul illustrates this point in the scripture below…

http://bible.com/1/1CO9.19.KJV For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more. And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law; To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law. To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.

But what does that mean really?? What does it mean to “become” that which you want to save? Perhaps it highlights the need to show you understand where they are so you can teach. Show that you can relate. Paul understood that concept, but do we?

How much like the world must you become in order to bring the world to Christ? A valid question because we do this and see this daily. We may water down the gospel or try to make it hip in an effort to win souls.

This has good intentions but I caution us a few things:

Don’t leave important salvation doctrine out
Don’t give them the hamburger without the meat! A whole bunch of televangelists are super popular because of this very thing. Not giving the complete gospel can put you in a false teacher category.

Don’t fly outside of biblical authority.
Uh oh. Might strike a nerve here. Don’t bring “Strange fire” no matter how good your intentions. Just cause it fills pews don’t make it righteous if God didn’t approve.

Still stand out
I find it of concern if someone is comfortable around a Christian because they practically can’t tell they are Christian. Relate, but don’t participate!

We have a new Christian music revolution where the music is now very worldly. As a music fan,I love the creativity! We reach a whole new audience this way.

But what happens when the bad slang is used? Rappers using the N word, profanity, etc? With anything, contradiction does not teach. However, when you find an artist trying to change, don’t shoot them down. As Priscilla and Aquila to Apollos, admonish gently, teach and correct.

To my musicians and all who try to give the good news I say if you are trying to become all things to win souls, DON’T BLUR THE CHRISTIAN LINES.

Church Shopping?

There are groups of people that don’t believe in “organized religion” and don’t see the value in being attached to any church assembly. Okay. But for those that realize the blessing of assembling with others of like precious faith, how did you arrive at the congregation where you now worship?

Let’s hope it was not for the following reasons…

1. Entertaining: The band plays hip Christian music, the preacher is so eloquent and energetic and you just feel so, well, entertained.

2. My family and friends have always attended: Fam and friends are there so it just makes sense. Plus it must be right if they are there.

3. Tolerance: They accept anybody. Meaning you can be a Christian and live any way you like and they won’t judge you or hold you accountable. They don’t bother me if I miss church. Overall loving family.

Let’s hope you are with this congregation for these reasons…

1. Sound doctrine. The beliefs, acts of worship, the things taught from the pulpit and in the classrooms are rooted in Biblical scripture and example. This is what makes it work. If your goal is to be in line with God’s word, you will be sure to worship where everyone else seeks the same thing.

2. Great godly workers. Every single part of the body of Christ must be actively working. They are all important. And they inspire others to good works. This helps the church grow.

3. Biblical leadership. Christ is the head of the church. The Bible highlights how the leadership structure should be. If it ain’t that, might want to re-examine things.

4. Family love. Rejoicing with those who rejoice and weeping with those who weep. Gentle rebuke of a brother who goes astray. Support and exhortation. We should be a family in Christ. Seek that.

You value worship and understand the weight that how you serve the Lord carries. You’re trying to get to heaven right? Make the effort to assemble with those of like precious faith.

Don’t just waste your life and afterlife just mindlessly sitting in the pew. Study your word to make certain you’re in the right place.

Just some friendly advice from your Christian Music Pusher.
