Lessons From Secular Lyrics Series #1: Shameless by Weeknd

This is by no means an attack on Weeknd or trying to insinuate anything on his part. In fact, I love this song. There is a song called “Shameless” that I’ve been into for quite a while now (the CLEAN version) and I got to thinking about the lyrics much more. It hit me. Sin and the devil works in THIS way.

Please allow me to break this down by each verse excerpt:

“Say it louder, say it louder
Who’s gonna love you like me, like me?
Say it louder, say it louder
Who’s gonna touch you like me, like me?

Ooh, said you wanna be good but you couldn’t keep your composure
Ooh, said you wanna be good but you’re begging me to come over
Ooh, come over
Ooh, saying who’s gonna touch you like me?”

Look at that. We all know how good it feels at the moment we are enjoying the pleasures of this life, the forbidden pleasures. I need not make an exhaustive list of those. Even instinctually we kinda know what is wrong. Perhaps God designed us that way. We try to be good, but yet you’re failing to keep your composure. Wow!

“I don’t wanna hurt you but you live for the pain
I’m not tryna say it but it’s what you became
You want me to fix you but it’s never enough
That’s why you always call me cause you’re scared to be loved
But I’ll always be there for you, I’ll always be there for you
I’ll always be there for you, girl I have no shame
I’ll always be there for you, I’ll always be there for you
I’ll always be there for you, girl I have no shame”

Guess what? The devil, much like God will always be there for you (until Jesus comes back, however) and he will be there to give you what you think you need because he has no shame. The song most likely refers to a man that is willing to take advantage of the woman who doesn’t respect her self. She is scared to be loved. Can you see people calling on the ones that will encourage the hate because misery loves company? He says, “I don’t wanna hurt you, but you live for the pain.” Do you know people like this? God stands ready to alleviate that pain while Satan stands ready to accentuate it.

“Say it louder, say it louder
Who’s gonna love you like me, like me? Yeah
Say it louder, say it louder
Who’s gonna touch you like me, like me?

Ooh, said it’d be the last time, all you needed was a little closure
Ooh, said it’d be the last time but you’re begging me to come over
Ooh, come over
Ooh, saying who’s gonna touch you like me?

Have you seen this scenario? One of my favorite preachers talked about how when someone is trying to choose Jesus and live for God, they always face the temptation of that one last fling. He said that one last fling will “fling you right into hell.” But seriously, this can be us. This is the struggle of anybody trying to live right. Furthermore, as the song says, they get reminded of the fact that nobody can “touch you like me.” and that can lead them back to a place they don’t want to be.

So here’s the thing. The Lord is always here. He will be there for you and stands ready to pick up your broken life and steer it in the right direction. The devil is always here. He will be there for you and stands ready to KEEP you in the wrong place and or to steer you in the wrong direction. You may not understand love and don’t think you deserve it and so you run to that which is NOT love. But God showed love by sending His only son to suffer, and I mean suffer, for YOU. He says you’re worth it. You are blood-bought. Visualize a person being beaten, spit on, tortured, having nails placed through hands and feet, for you. Feel THAT love. When you do, you will then make an effort to learn what is required to obey this Jesus’ expectations and then live for Him…shamelessly.

Simply Scripture Series: Jesus Teaches What Fights Temptation

Matthew 4:1-11 KJV

http://bible.com/1/mat.4.1-11.kjv Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred. And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple, And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.

The Little Rock in Your Shoe

I have a little pebble in my shoe and it’s driving me crazy. But it got me thinking…

This rock is tiny. But it really aggravates me…and it affects my walk! It’s annoying. Why?

One, it’s in a small place that only has room for my foot, socks and nothing else. Nothing else FITS. Any other addition and three is a crowd.

Two, big things come in small packages? That goes for both good and bad things. Even though we take it lightly it may prove to be more mountain than molehill.

Consider that shoe as your heart. God and His Word are your foot and sock. Sin is that rock. That little sin or those few sins have no place in there. It doesn’t FIT. You notice it because it affects your walk…in Christ. No matter how hard you try to dismiss it as a tiny pebble, it’s bothering you isn’t it?

Let’s be honest. Some of us have quite a few pebbles in our shoe and you know how one feels already!

Eventually, you get irritated enough to stop, take off your shoe and remove the rock from your shoe. Do you recall how that made you feel? How was your walk afterward? Feels much better.

Consider what sin, no matter how small, can do to your walk in Christ. Be irritated with your sin! Realize how much larger sin is than you think! Then, stop and pull the rock out of your shoe before these rocks cause you to stop walking altogether.

Consider…the rock in the rich young ruler’s shoe…

Mark 10:17-22 NIV

And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life? And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God. Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honour thy father and mother. And he answered and said unto him, Master, all these have I observed from my youth. Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me. And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he had great possessions.

Sinning: Ain’t Nobody Got Time For That!!!

Sin! The devil is one crafty being and my old preacher once told me he has a 100% success rate! Not one person with knowledge of right and wrong can say they haven’t sinned.

People who desire to serve the Lord have this struggle and it is hard. I don’t have the answer on how to keep from sinning or how to remove that one sin you can’t shake. However I can offer you one school of thought.

If you are too busy serving God and being productive, you AIN’T GOT TIME FOR SIN!!!

They say idle hands are the devil’s workshop. You might develop more freetime to do wrong if you don’t develop freetime to do right.

The Bible tells us not to use our freedoms as an opportunity to sin. We have to be good stewards of God’s gifts: time is one of them.

Get busy. Specifically get busy serving the Lord. If you find leisure time use it to read your Bible, study. The more active you are, you will find you don’t have time for sin.

Earning Hell

For the wages of sin is death. Ever thought about that? Wages? We associate wages with something earned. If you work for eight hours, you are guaranteed wages. They pay you for what you’ve done. Many of us work HARD for those wages.

But we’re talking about sin. Have you ever found yourself working hard to sin? Think about it. It requires effort sometimes to go against God. Some of us go out of our way to find an opportunity to sin. We make efforts to block out God long enough to do wrong. We expend energy trying to cover it up to keep people from finding out. We work hard to be who we are not. We weren’t meant to follow satan. We were made to love God give Him glory.

But after all the work to achieve that sInstant gratification, it never is really worth it. Is it? In fact you end up feeling dirty, impure, stained. What’s more you have put in work towards the only wages promised—death. Spiritual death.Eternal separation from God. You will actually EARN this. You deserve this.

What if we looked at sin this way? It really wouldn’t be worth the effort would it? It would seem rather pointless. Right? Like why bother?

But do work diligently to know what God expects of us by reading His word. Work hard to live right. Work hard to save the lost. Work hard to help others. And even then you cannot EARN heaven. But God’s grace was shown that His son became the ultimate sacrifice to save us from our sins and death that we deserve. That free gift, if accepted is better than working hard for a spot in hell.

Romans 6:23 KJV

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

The Real Gospel is Not Popular

I think when you really think about it, we all desire to be godly. Its in us. The Bible says we were created for His glory, to glorify the creator. We were made to love Him. So yes, we truly set out to do be good, God fearing people.

But as when the command was given to Adam and Eve to not eat of the forbidden tree, the tree looked all the more appetizing. More appetizing than serving their very own creator. The created outshined the Creator.

So it began…

This is the tug of war that Paul spoke of in his epistles. We want to do right yet the body says this feels better.

Because we were made to love Him, this tug of war causes us to strive for a have-your-cake-and-eat-it-too situation. Let me get God’s blessings without doing a thing.

We misuse the concept of grace to this end, thinking grace absolved us from requirements, work or any kind of responsibility.

We ignore, conveniently, clear commands of what God considers sinful because those just don’t fit us. We tailor God to us rather than tailoring ourselves to God and in the end we have created our own God rather than following the One that already is.

So then we have popular versions of the gospel created to fit us. Ignoring commands that are mean or archaic. The church is packed with lost souls who accepted the nice gospel. The watered down gospel. The popular gospel.

But if we give them the unpopular, straight no chaser gospel, the “no, you cannot do that” gospel, it would be as though one had the rug pulled from under their feet…

However…that IS what we need.

Satan wants the popular gospel. He loves that church because contrary to what the world sees, he runs that church…

Please don’t be fooled by the popular gospel. The unpopular gospel is the good news. Jesus saved us when God, through His grace sent Him to die for our sins. But you must do. Yes you must do something to accept it. You must live what the word teaches. If God condemns it, don’t do it…even if the world changes its view because God has not.

Don’t take my word for it. Read the Bible and take His word for it.

Lyrical Sunday Sermons – Isaac Carree “Chances”

Isaac sings of a dilemma many of us face trying to live the life of a Christian. We sin and put ourselves in harms way. Then we tell God something like, if you get me out of this, I will…

Then we do it again!

God has grace but we mustn’t use is as a pass to sin.

Romans 6:8-18 KJV

Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him: Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God. Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.

It will be a challenge and we have opportunity to be right with God as long as we have breath. But we must realize that our goal should be to live for Jesus to the very end.

Our chances run out at the end of this life.

Enjoy the song! Love, Christian Music Pusher.

Lyrical Sunday Sermons #1- Whatever Comes by Andy Mineo

“I wrote this on Good Friday, but why they call it good? An innocent man was beaten and nailed into wood. It’s only through the lens of grace we see who that really should of been hanging from that tree, who the nails should have been put in…me.The only place the world has ever seen complete justice, grace and love meet The innocent One took the blame so I wouldn’t have to. This is good unless you don’t believe the bad news. For the sin you committed just in the last two minutes you deserve God’s holy and just wrath dude. So let me ask you, you ever regret something like a tattoo of the name of your last boo? Sin is so deep, all up in your skin Like the sin that you try to delete. Cry and you weep, But unless the Christ died and He rise to His feet and ascended into the sky then our hope is obsolete”

“whatever comes” by Andy Mineo

I want to highlight the part where he says the good news is only good unless you don’t believe the bad news. Someone only can truly appreciate and seek Jesus once the realize their NEED for Jesus. That they are in sin, separated from God and Jesus is the only way to get back to God. Just a thought from your Christian Music Pusher.
